Update Guidelines and List of Documents
List of Acceptable Documents for Aadhaar Enrolment and Update
- The official UIDAI list of identity, address, date-of-birth and relationship documents.
- New document schedule (2026): UIDAI notified the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) First Amendment Regulations, 2026 on 6 May 2026, replacing the list of acceptable documents. The updated list was uploaded on the UIDAI site in June 2026.
- Four lists: List I for children up to 5, List II for 5 to under 18, List III for 18 and above, and List IV for updates at any age.
- Children under 5: enrolment is Head of Family (HoF) based, using the child's birth certificate (or passport for NRIs, or a legal-guardianship document). Children in Child Care Institutions and foreign nationals use document-based enrolment.
- Children 5 to under 18: HoF-based enrolment is encouraged. Document-based enrolment is allowed if no HoF or relationship proof is available. Date-of-birth update for residents under 18 needs a birth certificate.
- HoF rules: the HoF must already hold a valid Aadhaar, the parent/guardian must authenticate with biometrics, and the child's address is taken from the HoF.
- Adults: the list covers proof of identity, address and date of birth, such as passport, ration card, voter ID, driving licence, pensioner/service ID, mark sheets and recent utility bills (usually not older than 3 months).
- For updates (List IV): documents like bank passbook or statement (not older than 3 months), marriage certificate, divorce decree, gazette notification for name change and property tax receipt (not older than 1 year) are accepted.
- General rule: documents must be valid, in your own name, verifiable with the issuer, and the name and date of birth must match across documents.
- Foreign nationals: OCI cardholders, Long Term Visa holders, Nepal/Bhutan nationals and other foreigners who stayed in India 182+ days in the last 12 months have separate lists.

- Child biometric waiver: UIDAI made mandatory biometric updates free for children aged 5 to 17 until 30 September 2026. That date has passed, and I could not find an official extension. Check with a centre or call 1947 before going.
- Demographic update done along with a chargeable biometric update has no separate demographic fee.
- Fees may be revised, so confirm at the centre or on the UIDAI site.
Update Limits
- Name: up to 2 times in a lifetime.
- Gender: once in a lifetime.
- Date of birth: once in a lifetime.
- Requests beyond these limits go through UIDAI's exception process with stronger proof.
Online vs Centre Updates

Which form should I download?
- Choose by residency and age: Resident Indian / NRI with Indian address proof, NRI with address proof outside India, or Resident Foreign National, then the age group.
Is document update free?
- Online on myAadhaar it is free up to 14 June 2027. At a centre it costs ₹75.
Can I change my date of birth many times?
- No. Date of birth can be changed only once and gender only once. Name can be changed twice.
Is child biometric update still free?
- The announced free window ended on 30 September 2026. The regular rule keeps the update at ages 5 to 7 and 15 to 17 free. Confirm with UIDAI.

- पहचान, पते, जन्म तिथि और संबंध के प्रमाण दस्तावेज़ों की UIDAI की आधिकारिक सूची।
- नई दस्तावेज़ अनुसूची (2026): UIDAI ने 6 मई 2026 को Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) First Amendment Regulations, 2026 जारी की, जिसने मान्य दस्तावेज़ों की सूची बदल दी। अपडेटेड सूची जून 2026 में UIDAI साइट पर डाली गई।
- चार सूचियाँ: सूची I (5 वर्ष तक के बच्चे), सूची II (5 से 18 वर्ष से कम), सूची III (18 वर्ष और ऊपर) और सूची IV (किसी भी उम्र में अपडेट)।
- 5 वर्ष से कम बच्चे: नामांकन Head of Family (HoF) आधारित होता है, जिसमें बच्चे का जन्म प्रमाण पत्र (NRI के लिए पासपोर्ट, या कानूनी संरक्षक का दस्तावेज़) लगता है। चाइल्ड केयर संस्थान के बच्चे और विदेशी नागरिक दस्तावेज़ आधारित नामांकन करते हैं।
- 5 से 18 वर्ष से कम बच्चे: HoF आधारित नामांकन को बढ़ावा दिया जाता है। HoF या संबंध का प्रमाण न हो तो दस्तावेज़ आधारित नामांकन भी हो सकता है। 18 से कम निवासियों की जन्म तिथि अपडेट के लिए जन्म प्रमाण पत्र चाहिए।
- HoF के नियम: HoF का आधार पहले से वैध होना चाहिए, माता-पिता/अभिभावक को बायोमेट्रिक से प्रमाणित करना होगा, और बच्चे का पता HoF से लिया जाता है।
- वयस्क: सूची में पहचान, पते और जन्म तिथि के प्रमाण आते हैं, जैसे पासपोर्ट, राशन कार्ड, वोटर ID, ड्राइविंग लाइसेंस, पेंशनर/सर्विस ID, मार्कशीट और हाल के यूटिलिटी बिल (आमतौर पर 3 महीने से पुराने नहीं)।
- अपडेट के लिए (सूची IV): बैंक पासबुक या स्टेटमेंट (3 महीने से पुराना नहीं), विवाह प्रमाण पत्र, तलाक का आदेश, नाम बदलने की गज़ट अधिसूचना और संपत्ति कर रसीद (1 साल से पुरानी नहीं) मान्य हैं।
- सामान्य नियम: दस्तावेज़ वैध, आपके अपने नाम का और जारीकर्ता से सत्यापन योग्य होना चाहिए, और सभी दस्तावेज़ों में नाम व जन्म तिथि मेल खानी चाहिए।
- विदेशी नागरिक: OCI कार्डधारक, Long Term Visa धारक, नेपाल/भूटान के नागरिक और पिछले 12 महीनों में भारत में 182+ दिन रहे अन्य विदेशियों की अलग सूचियाँ हैं।

- बच्चों के बायोमेट्रिक की छूट: UIDAI ने 5 से 17 वर्ष के बच्चों का अनिवार्य बायोमेट्रिक अपडेट 30 सितंबर 2026 तक मुफ़्त किया था। वह तारीख निकल चुकी है और मुझे कोई आधिकारिक विस्तार नहीं मिला। जाने से पहले सेंटर से पूछ लें या 1947 पर कॉल करें।
- चार्जेबल बायोमेट्रिक अपडेट के साथ डेमोग्राफ़िक अपडेट कराएं तो अलग से डेमोग्राफ़िक फ़ीस नहीं लगती।
- फ़ीस बदल सकती है, इसलिए सेंटर या UIDAI साइट पर पुष्टि करें।
अपडेट की सीमाएं
- नाम: जीवन में अधिकतम 2 बार।
- लिंग: जीवन में केवल 1 बार।
- जन्म तिथि: जीवन में केवल 1 बार।
- इस सीमा से ज़्यादा बदलाव UIDAI की exception प्रक्रिया से, मज़बूत प्रमाण के साथ होते हैं।
