Key Features

• e-Nomination is done on the EPFO Member Portal under Manage → E-Nomination. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes and is free.
• It needs an activated, Aadhaar-linked UAN and a mobile number linked with Aadhaar for the e-sign OTP.
• You can add more than one nominee, and their shares must add up to exactly 100%.
• Once e-signed, the nomination is registered with EPFO and no physical document is needed. The same family details are used for EPS pension.
• A new nomination replaces the earlier one, so re-enter the old nominees if you want to keep them.
• EPFO's portal says filing a nomination is mandatory under the EPF Scheme, 2026. Update it after marriage or the birth of a child.

What You Need

• Activated UAN linked with Aadhaar, and your UAN password.
• Aadhaar-linked mobile number that is active, for the e-sign OTP.
• Your own profile photo uploaded, and your name, date of birth and gender matching Aadhaar.
• For each family member or nominee: Aadhaar number, name as per Aadhaar, date of birth, gender, relationship, address, a scanned photo (JPG or JPEG, within the size limit) and bank account number with IFSC.
• For a nominee who is a minor: the guardian's details.

Process: Add or Update Nominee Online

1. Log in to the EPFO Member Portal (unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in) with your UAN, password and captcha.
2. Go to the Manage tab and select E-Nomination.
3. On the Provide Details page check your details and click Save.
4. Under Family Declaration choose Yes if you have a family, and click Add Family Details.
5. Enter each person's Aadhaar number, name, date of birth, gender, relationship, address and bank details and upload the photo. Repeat for every nominee, then click Save Family Details.
6. Click Nomination Details, choose the nominees and enter each share in percent. The total must be exactly 100%. Click Save EPF Nomination.
7. Click E-Sign. An OTP is sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile. Enter it to complete the nomination.
8. To check, open Manage → E-Nomination again and view the nomination history.

If You Have No Family

When to Update the Nomination

• After marriage or the birth of a child.
• After the death of a nominee or a change in family.
• When a nominee's bank account details change.
• If you want to change the share percentages.
• You can update the nomination any number of times. Each update needs a fresh Aadhaar OTP e-sign.

Common Problems and Solutions

• Shares do not total 100%: This is the most common error. Adjust the percentages so they add up exactly.
• Profile shows incomplete: Your own photo may be missing, or name, date of birth or gender does not match Aadhaar. Correct the profile and upload a photo first.
• Photo upload fails: The file may be too big or in the wrong format. Resize it and save as JPG or JPEG.
• Aadhaar validation error: The nominee's details do not match UIDAI records. Enter the name and date of birth exactly as in the nominee's Aadhaar.
• E-sign OTP not received: The mobile may not be the Aadhaar-linked one. Update the mobile in Aadhaar or use the physical route.
• Cannot use online e-nomination: EPFO also provides Form 2 for a physical nomination, submitted through your employer. Aadhaar-linked UAN is needed for the online route.
