How to Check PF Passbook Online: EPFO Portal, UMANG, SMS and Missed Call (2026)
Your PF passbook shows every contribution, interest credit and withdrawal in your EPF account. Checking it regularly is the easiest way to make sure your employer is depositing your PF on time. This guide explains all four ways to check your balance, how to read the passbook entries, and what to do if the passbook is blank or a contribution is missing.

- All four need an activated UAN. The passbook portal does not have its own registration. Your UAN login works there.
- SMS and missed call work only from the mobile number registered with your UAN.
- Checking and downloading the passbook is free. A newly activated UAN can take a few hours before the passbook appears.
- If you have worked with several employers, each Member ID under the same UAN can be viewed separately.
- If your employer runs its own exempted PF trust, your balance sits with that trust and will not show on the EPFO passbook.
Latest Update
- EPFO moved to an upgraded system in mid-2026. According to a July 2026 report, the passbook went offline for a while and has been returning in stages, so some members saw a blank page or missing old entries. Your PF money is not affected.
- The EPF Scheme, 2026 was notified on 29 June 2026. Existing balances and UANs carry over as they are.
- While the passbook loads slowly, you can use UMANG, SMS or missed call to check your balance.
What You Need
- An activated UAN. If it is not active yet, first activate it through the UMANG app with Aadhaar face authentication.
- Your UAN password (for the passbook portal) or the mobile number registered with UAN (for UMANG OTP, SMS and missed call).
- A stable internet connection for the portal or app.
Method 1: EPFO Passbook Portal (Full Passbook with PDF)
- Open passbook.epfindia.gov.in in your browser.
- Log in with your UAN, password and captcha.
- Select the Member ID (the PF account of the employer) whose passbook you want to see.
- View the entries on screen and download the passbook as a PDF for your records.
Method 2: UMANG App
- Open the UMANG app and search for EPFO.
- Choose View Passbook.
- Enter your UAN and verify the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Select the Member ID and view or download the passbook.
Method 3: SMS and Missed Call (No Internet Needed)
- SMS: send EPFOHO UAN ENG to 7738299899 from your registered mobile. ENG is the language code, so you can ask for another language.
- Missed call: give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile. You will get an SMS with your balance and last contribution.
- Both routes need an active UAN and the correct registered mobile number. A UAN with complete KYC gives smoother results.
How to Read Your Passbook
- Employee share: the part deducted from your salary every month.
- Employer share: your employer's contribution. Part of it goes to the EPF and part to the EPS pension fund.
- Interest: credited once a year. It can appear later than the contributions, so do not worry if it is missing for the current year.
- Transfer-in entries: show the balance moved from an old PF account after a transfer.
- Check every month: each salary month should have a matching entry. A gap means the employer has not deposited or has filed late.
Common Problems and Solutions
- Passbook is blank or not loading: This can happen while EPFO's upgraded system settles. Try again later, or check the balance through UMANG, SMS or missed call.
- New UAN, passbook not available: Wait a few hours after activation and try again.
- Forgot password: Use the forgot password option on the member portal. It needs your registered mobile number.
- OTP, SMS or missed call not working: You are probably using a number that is not registered with your UAN. Update the mobile number first (see our guide on changing the mobile number in UAN).
- A month's contribution is missing: Ask your employer (HR) whether the PF was deposited for that month. If there is no solution, file a complaint on the EPFO grievance portal or call the helpline 14470.
- Old company account not showing: Check the other Member IDs under the same UAN. If the old company ran its own PF trust, the balance will not show here.
Important Points
- Check your passbook at least once a quarter. Early detection of a missing contribution makes it easier to fix.
- Never share your UAN password or OTP with anyone. EPFO does not ask for them on phone calls.
- Keep KYC (Aadhaar, PAN, bank) complete, so that a future claim does not get stuck.
- Figures and processes can change. For the latest information, check the EPFO website or UMANG app.

आपकी PF पासबुक में EPF खाते की हर जमा राशि, ब्याज और निकासी दर्ज होती है। इसे समय-समय पर देखना ही यह पक्का करने का सबसे आसान तरीका है कि आपका नियोक्ता PF समय पर जमा कर रहा है। यहां बैलेंस चेक करने के चारों तरीके, पासबुक को पढ़ने का तरीका और पासबुक खाली दिखने या किसी महीने की जमा राशि न दिखने पर क्या करें, यह बताया गया है।
मुख्य जानकारी (Key Features)
- चेक करने के चार तरीके: पासबुक पोर्टल (passbook.epfindia.gov.in), UMANG ऐप, SMS और मिस्ड कॉल।
- चारों के लिए एक्टिवेटेड UAN ज़रूरी है। पासबुक पोर्टल पर अलग रजिस्ट्रेशन नहीं होता। आपका UAN लॉगिन ही वहां चलता है।
- SMS और मिस्ड कॉल सिर्फ UAN से रजिस्टर्ड मोबाइल नंबर से काम करते हैं।
- पासबुक देखना और डाउनलोड करना फ्री है। नया UAN एक्टिवेट होने के कुछ घंटे बाद ही पासबुक दिखती है।
- अगर आपने कई नियोक्ताओं के साथ काम किया है, तो एक ही UAN के हर मेंबर ID की पासबुक अलग-अलग देख सकते हैं।
- अगर आपकी कंपनी का अपना छूट-प्राप्त PF ट्रस्ट है, तो बैलेंस उसी ट्रस्ट के पास रहता है और EPFO पासबुक में नहीं दिखेगा।
ताज़ा अपडेट
- EPFO 2026 के मध्य में अपग्रेडेड सिस्टम पर गया है। जुलाई 2026 की एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार पासबुक कुछ समय के लिए बंद रही और चरणों में वापस आ रही है, इसलिए कुछ सदस्यों को खाली पेज या पुरानी एंट्री गायब दिखीं। आपके PF के पैसे पर इसका असर नहीं है।

शुरू करने से पहले क्या चाहिए

- आपका UAN पासवर्ड (पासबुक पोर्टल के लिए) या UAN से रजिस्टर्ड मोबाइल नंबर (UMANG OTP, SMS और मिस्ड कॉल के लिए)।
- पोर्टल या ऐप के लिए अच्छा इंटरनेट।
तरीका 1: EPFO पासबुक पोर्टल (पूरी पासबुक और PDF)
- ब्राउज़र में passbook.epfindia.gov.in खोलें।
- UAN, पासवर्ड और कैप्चा से लॉगिन करें।
- जिस नियोक्ता की पासबुक देखनी है, उसका मेंबर ID चुनें।
- स्क्रीन पर एंट्री देखें और रिकॉर्ड के लिए पासबुक को PDF में डाउनलोड कर लें।
तरीका 2: UMANG ऐप
- UMANG ऐप खोलें और EPFO सर्च करें।
- View Passbook चुनें।
- अपना UAN डालें और रजिस्टर्ड मोबाइल पर आया OTP सत्यापित करें।
- मेंबर ID चुनकर पासबुक देखें या डाउनलोड करें।
तरीका 3: SMS और मिस्ड कॉल (इंटरनेट की ज़रूरत नहीं)
- SMS: अपने रजिस्टर्ड मोबाइल से 7738299899 पर EPFOHO UAN ENG भेजें। ENG भाषा का कोड है, दूसरी भाषा का कोड लगाकर उस भाषा में भी जवाब मंगा सकते हैं।
- मिस्ड कॉल: रजिस्टर्ड मोबाइल से 9966044425 पर मिस्ड कॉल दें। आपको बैलेंस और आखिरी जमा राशि का SMS आ जाएगा।
- दोनों तरीकों के लिए UAN एक्टिव और सही रजिस्टर्ड मोबाइल होना चाहिए। KYC पूरा होने पर नतीजे ज़्यादा सहज रहते हैं।
पासबुक को कैसे पढ़ें
- कर्मचारी का हिस्सा (Employee share): हर महीने आपकी सैलरी से कटने वाली राशि।
- नियोक्ता का हिस्सा (Employer share): आपके नियोक्ता का योगदान। इसका एक भाग EPF में और एक भाग EPS पेंशन फंड में जाता है।
- ब्याज (Interest): साल में एक बार जमा होता है। यह जमा राशि से देर से दिख सकता है, इसलिए चालू साल का ब्याज न दिखे तो घबराएं नहीं।
- ट्रांसफर-इन एंट्री: ट्रांसफर के बाद पुराने PF खाते से आई राशि दिखाती हैं।
- हर महीना जांचें: हर सैलरी महीने की एक एंट्री होनी चाहिए। बीच में महीना गायब हो तो नियोक्ता ने जमा नहीं किया या देर से भरा है।
आम समस्याएं और समाधान
- पासबुक खाली है या खुल नहीं रही: EPFO का अपग्रेडेड सिस्टम सेट होने के दौरान ऐसा हो सकता है। बाद में दोबारा कोशिश करें या UMANG, SMS अथवा मिस्ड कॉल से बैलेंस देखें।
- नया UAN है, पासबुक नहीं दिख रही: एक्टिवेशन के कुछ घंटे बाद दोबारा देखें।
- पासवर्ड भूल गए: मेंबर पोर्टल पर Forgot Password का विकल्प इस्तेमाल करें। इसके लिए रजिस्टर्ड मोबाइल चाहिए।
- OTP, SMS या मिस्ड कॉल काम नहीं कर रहा: शायद आप ऐसा नंबर इस्तेमाल कर रहे हैं जो UAN से रजिस्टर्ड नहीं है। पहले मोबाइल नंबर अपडेट करें (हमारी UAN में मोबाइल नंबर बदलने की गाइड देखें)।
- किसी महीने की जमा राशि नहीं दिख रही: नियोक्ता (HR) से पूछें कि उस महीने का PF जमा हुआ या नहीं। हल न निकले तो EPFO शिकायत पोर्टल पर शिकायत करें या हेल्पलाइन 14470 पर कॉल करें।
- पुरानी कंपनी का खाता नहीं दिख रहा: उसी UAN के दूसरे मेंबर ID देखें। अगर पुरानी कंपनी का अपना PF ट्रस्ट था तो बैलेंस यहां नहीं दिखेगा।
ज़रूरी बातें
- कम से कम हर तिमाही में पासबुक ज़रूर देखें। किसी महीने की जमा राशि गायब हो तो जल्दी पता चलने पर सुधार आसान होता है।
- UAN पासवर्ड और OTP किसी को न बताएं। EPFO फोन कॉल पर ये नहीं मांगता।
- KYC (आधार, पैन, बैंक) पूरा रखें ताकि आगे क्लेम न अटके।
