How to Correct Details in Voter ID Online (Form 8): Name, Date of Birth, Address and More
Spelling mistakes in a name, a wrong date of birth, an old address or a damaged card can all be fixed without applying for a new Voter ID. The Election Commission of India lets registered voters submit Form 8 on the Voters' Services Portal or the Voter Helpline App. This guide lists what can be corrected, the documents usually needed, and the steps to follow.
What Can You Correct Using Form 8?
Form 8 is for people who are already registered voters. It covers correction of entries in the roll, shifting of residence, a replacement EPIC, and marking a person as a person with disability (PwD).
Details usually corrected are name, gender, age or date of birth, relative's name and relation type, address and mobile number. If you want to change your photo, use the option on the portal if it is shown or ask your BLO. A new person who is not in the roll must use Form 6.
Documents to Keep Ready
- Your EPIC (Voter ID) number.
- Proof for the correction: for name or date of birth, a school certificate, birth certificate, Aadhaar, passport or PAN; for address, Aadhaar, bank passbook, utility bill or rent agreement.
- A clear scan or photo of each document in the size and format asked.
- An active mobile number or email ID for OTP login.
- Aadhaar number, if you wish to furnish it.
Steps: Correct Voter ID Details Online
- Open voters.eci.gov.in or the Voter Helpline App and log in.
- Choose Form 8 from the forms section.
- Select the service you need: correction of entries, shifting of residence or replacement EPIC.
- Enter your EPIC number so your current details load on screen.
- Tick the field you want to change and type the correct information.
- Upload the supporting document for that change.
- Preview everything, submit, and save the reference number.
- Track the status on the portal until the ERO takes a decision.

After Your Request Is Approved
When the Electoral Registration Officer approves the request, the roll is updated and a replacement EPIC may be issued. The EPIC number generally remains the same. If a new card is issued, return the old one to the ERO as instructed.

Important Precautions
- Enter details exactly as written in your supporting documents.
- Do not file many requests for the same correction. One clean request is faster.
- Do not pay agents. ECI does not charge for Form 8.
- Never share your OTP with anyone.

अनुरोध मंजूर होने के बाद
निर्वाचक पंजीकरण अधिकारी के मंजूर करने पर सूची अपडेट हो जाती है और नया (रिप्लेसमेंट) EPIC जारी हो सकता है। EPIC नंबर आमतौर पर वही रहता है। अगर नया कार्ड मिले तो निर्देश अनुसार पुराना कार्ड ERO को लौटा दें।

- OTP किसी को न बताएं।
