How to Get IRCTC Refund: Cancellation and TDR Process

When You Need a TDR
- Train delayed by more than 3 hours and you do not travel: file TDR before the train actually departs.
- Chart is prepared and you could not cancel online.
- Partial cancellation, diversion or short termination of the train.
- AC not working, or you were not given the accommodation you paid for. Such cases need a TDR with the reason.
- Log in and open My Transactions > File TDR.
- Select the ticket, passengers and the correct reason.
- Submit and note the TDR reference.
- Wait for the railway to review. TDR refunds can take several weeks.
Special Cases
- Waitlisted tickets that do not get confirmed are cancelled and refunded automatically, with only a small charge.
- Confirmed Tatkal tickets are normally not refundable. Waitlisted Tatkal tickets are refundable after the small charge.
- If the train is cancelled on its entire run, you get a full refund automatically.
