Minor PAN Card: How a Parent or Guardian Can Apply Online
A child under 18 can have a PAN, for example for investments, a bank account or income in the child's name. A minor cannot apply alone, so the parent or guardian applies as the representative.
About a Minor PAN Card
A minor PAN is issued in the child's name, but it carries no photo or signature of the child, and the parent or guardian signs as representative. So it is not a full identity proof. When the child turns 18, the PAN must be updated with the child's own photo and signature. The Instant e-PAN route is for adults, so use Protean or UTIITSL for a minor.
Documents Required
- Minor's proof of date of birth: birth certificate, school certificate or Aadhaar.
- Parent / guardian's identity proof and address proof (for example Aadhaar, voter ID, passport).
- Parent / guardian's passport size photo and signature.
- Parent / guardian's PAN details, as asked.
- Mobile number and email of the parent for OTP.
Step-by-Step Process
- Open the Protean or UTIITSL PAN portal and choose Apply for New PAN Card.
- Select the applicant category as Individual and enter the minor's name and date of birth.
- Enter the parent / guardian (representative) details, address and contact number.
- Upload the minor's DOB proof and the parent's ID and address proof.
- Add the parent's photo and signature as the representative.
- Pay the fee and complete verification as the portal asks.
- Submit, save the acknowledgement number and track the status. The PAN is sent by e-mail and by post if you chose a card.

Important Tips
- Apply with the birth certificate as DOB proof if the child has no Aadhaar.
