Eligibility Criteria

Post	Qualification and experience
Principal	Master's degree with at least 50% marks, B.Ed. (NCTE recognised), and 4 years' teaching experience as Lecturer/Assistant Teacher in Class 9 to 12, or 4 years as Headmaster of a High School.
Headmaster	Master's degree with at least 50% marks, B.Ed. or B.P.Ed. (NCTE recognised), and 4 years' teaching experience in Class 9 to 12, or 4 years as Headmaster of a Junior High School.

Citizens of India can apply. All qualifications must be complete by the last date of application.
The experience certificate must be issued by the district-level officer and countersigned by the divisional officer (Regional Officer for Kendriya Vidyalayas).
Male candidates cannot be appointed as Principal in a girls' school. Women can apply for both boys' and girls' schools but must choose only one category in the form.
Employed candidates need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer at the time of interview.
Candidates must state any pending court case. Hiding information leads to cancellation.

Selection Process and Exam Pattern

Each correct answer gets 3 marks; 1 mark is deducted for each wrong or multiple answer.
The paper is in Hindi and English (except language subjects). Use only a black ball point pen on the OMR sheet.
Admit card is available 3 days before the exam and the exam district is shown 10 days before. The syllabus is on www.upessc.up.gov.in.
Tie-breaker order: written marks, interview marks, PG percentage, B.Ed. percentage, then older age.
Shortlisted candidates bring two sets of self-attested documents and an affidavit to the interview.

How to Apply Online for UPESSC Principal Headmaster Recruitment 2026

Open the official website www.upessc.up.gov.in and complete One Time Registration (OTR).
Read the user manual on the website, then fill the application form in English only.
Upload passport photo and signature (JPG/JPEG, 10 KB to 100 KB).
Upload certificates in PDF (20 KB to 200 KB).
Pay the fee online (₹2,000 Principal, ₹1,500 Headmaster).
Submit, and keep three printouts and the fee receipt.

After final submission, category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed. Corrections are allowed only till 25-11-2026.
If you submit more than one application for the same post, only the last one is accepted.
Offline applications are not accepted.

भारत के नागरिक आवेदन कर सकते हैं। सभी योग्यताएं आवेदन की अंतिम तिथि तक पूरी होनी चाहिए।
अनुभव प्रमाण पत्र जनपद स्तर के अधिकारी द्वारा जारी और मंडलीय अधिकारी द्वारा प्रतिहस्ताक्षरित होना चाहिए (केंद्रीय विद्यालय के लिए क्षेत्रीय अधिकारी)।
बालिका विद्यालय में पुरुष अभ्यर्थी प्रधानाचार्य पद पर नियुक्त नहीं हो सकते। महिलाएं बालक और बालिका दोनों के लिए पात्र हैं, पर फॉर्म में केवल एक श्रेणी चुननी होगी।
नौकरी करने वाले अभ्यर्थियों को साक्षात्कार के समय नियोक्ता का अनापत्ति प्रमाण पत्र (NOC) देना होगा।
अभ्यर्थी को लंबित न्यायालयीन मामले की जानकारी देनी होगी। जानकारी छिपाने पर उम्मीदवारी रद्द होगी।
