Eligibility and Experience

Experience for ITI-route candidates

The experience must be in survey and settlement work using modern techniques. The notification expects familiarity with:

• Differential GPS (DGPS) and/or Electronic Total Stations (ETS)
• Modern methods of surveying
• Large-scale mapping and land records preparation

The experience must come from an eligible Government-empanelled organisation or an Indian GIS/surveying company recognised under the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme (Department of Land Resources, Government of India) with at least 3 years of experience in preparing large-scale maps and land records. Get the certificate from the competent authority, stating employment period, field, duties and pay details. The experience must be full-time and complete by the closing date.

Bengali language requirement

Ability to read, write and speak Bengali is required. This is not mandatory for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali. Candidature may be cancelled if Bengali performance is found inadequate.

Age Limit and Relaxation

The date of birth in the Madhyamik or equivalent certificate is accepted for age.

Salary

The advertisement gives the pay scale and allowances, not a fixed in-hand salary.

Application Fee

The fee must be paid online. Fees paid are neither refunded nor adjusted against another exam.

Selection Process

• Paper I — Bengali/Nepali (conventional), qualifying only
• Paper II — Objective: English, Elementary Mathematics and Survey Engineering
• Final merit from Paper II marks of candidates who qualify Paper I and meet the Paper II standard
• Verification of educational, experience, reservation and other eligibility documents
• Final recommendation subject to fulfilment of recruitment conditions

Exam Pattern

Paper I — Bengali / Nepali

Paper II — Objective

• Multiple-choice questions, duration 2 hours 30 minutes
• 1 mark per correct answer, 0.25 mark deducted per wrong answer
• Final merit on Paper II marks only

Both papers together carry 250 marks, but only the 200 marks of Paper II count for final merit.

Examination Rules

• Paper I is conventional (50 marks) and Paper II has 200 objective questions (200 marks).
• Paper II marks are considered only for candidates who score at least 30% in Paper I.
• If candidates tie on Paper II marks, the older candidate gets preference.
• The exam date will be announced separately.

Paper II — Survey Engineering

This section follows the standard of a Diploma examination in Survey Engineering. The detailed advertisement gives no chapter-wise split, so prepare to the Diploma standard.

Reservation Rules and Special Facilities

• Eligible West Bengal candidates can claim SC, ST, OBC Non-Creamy Layer or EWS reservation.
• SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates from other states may apply against unreserved posts.
• Renewed or revalidated OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificates are needed when required. EWS candidates must give the prescribed Income and Asset Certificate.
• Supporting certificates must be valid by the closing date.

Meritorious Sportsperson (23 posts)

Notified sports: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Judo, Rifle Shooting, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Archery. The prescribed sports certificate and forms must be produced at document verification.

Exam facilities for PwBD candidates

Benchmark-disability candidates with the prescribed writing limitation may be eligible for a scribe and 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour. This needs the relevant medical certificate and compliance with the application-stage requirements.

Application Correction (Edit Window)

Only fields permitted by the Commission can be edited. To change your address, first update it in your profile, then use the application Edit option. The Edit option can be used only once, and changes or new category claims outside the rules are not accepted.

How to Apply Online

1. Open the official website psc.wb.gov.in.
2. Find Advertisement No. 22/2024 for Sub-Surveyor in the Directorate of Land Records & Surveys and read it fully.
3. Open the online application for Sub-Surveyor, then register or sign in.
4. Enter personal, educational and contact details, and your Survey Engineering Diploma or Surveyor ITI details.
5. If applying through the ITI route, enter the survey and settlement experience details.
6. Give reservation/category details with supporting information, and the details of a valid photo ID.
7. Review the application carefully before final submission.
8. Pay the ₹110 fee and applicable service charges unless exempt.
9. Submit by 9 November 2026, 3:00 PM, and save a copy of the application.
