Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana: Free LPG Connection, Rs 300 Subsidy, Eligibility and Application
Women from eligible poor families get a free LPG connection. In 2026-27 eligible beneficiaries receive Rs 300 per cylinder on the first 4 refills each year directly in their bank account, a maximum of Rs 1,200 a year. - Latest update (June 2026): The number of subsidised refills was cut from 9 to 4 per year. The Rs 300 subsidy on a 14.2 kg cylinder has been continued for the financial year 2026-27. From the fifth cylinder you pay the market price.
- From 1 October 2026: Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) is required to book a domestic LPG refill at the regulated subsidised price. Without it you still get LPG, but at the market price without subsidy, until authentication is completed.
- In September 2025, 25 lakh additional Ujjwala connections were approved for 2025-26.

Eligibility
Main conditions
- The woman must be 18 years or older and an Indian citizen.
- The connection is issued only in the name of the woman.
- No domestic LPG connection of an oil company should already exist in the name of the applicant or any family member.
- Families with a domestic piped natural gas connection are not eligible for the subsidised LPG benefit.
Eligible categories (any one)
- Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families
- Beneficiaries of PM Awas Yojana (Gramin)
- Antyodaya Anna Yojana families
- Most Backward Classes families
- Families living in forest areas, and tea garden and ex-tea garden tribe families
- Families living on river islands
- Families identified under the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC)
- Other poor families as per the 14-point declaration
For the 'Other poor families' category, the family must not have any of these
- A two, three or four wheeler vehicle or a motorised fishing boat
- Mechanised farm equipment
- A Kisan Credit Card with a limit above Rs 50,000
- A member in government service or earning more than Rs 10,000 a month
- A government-registered non-farm business, or payment of income tax or professional tax
- A house with 3 or more rooms with pucca walls and roof, a refrigerator or a landline phone
- Large irrigated land (more than 2.5 acres with irrigation equipment, or 5 acres or more for two crop seasons, or 7.5 acres or more)
For migrant families
- Under Ujjwala 2.0, a ration card or traditional proof of residence is not needed if the prescribed self-declaration (Annexure-I) is submitted.
If a wrong declaration is made or facts are hidden, the connection can be cancelled and the benefits given can be recovered.

For address proof, any valid document such as Aadhaar, passport, ration/NFSA card, voter ID, driving licence, bank or post office passbook, electricity/water bill, registered rent agreement, MGNREGA job card, farmer passbook or Jan Aadhaar/Bhamashah card is accepted.
How to Apply Online
- Open the official PMUY portal and click Apply for New Ujjwala PMUY Connection.
- Read the eligibility conditions and instructions and click Click Here.
- Choose your preferred distributor: Indane, Bharat Gas or HP Gas.
- If needed, register with your name, mobile number and email, and log in.
- Fill in the personal, address and family details in the application form and upload the documents.
- Check the details and submit the application.
- The oil company and distributor verify it. A de-duplication check confirms the family has no LPG connection already.
- After approval, the connection is issued in the woman's name.
How to Apply Offline
- Visit the nearest Indane, Bharat Gas or HP Gas distributor.
- Take the Ujjwala KYC application form from the distributor and fill in all the details.
- Attach the documents with Aadhaar, bank details and family information and submit the form.
- The distributor verifies it and does the de-duplication check, and issues the connection if you are found eligible.

- During gas delivery using the delivery person's oil company app, at the distributor's showroom, or through the oil companies' mobile apps. If it is already done, you do not need to do it again.

- 1 अक्टूबर 2026 से: सब्सिडी वाली दर पर घरेलू LPG रिफिल बुक करने के लिए बायोमेट्रिक आधार प्रमाणीकरण (BAA) ज़रूरी है। प्रमाणीकरण न होने पर LPG मिलेगी, पर बिना सब्सिडी बाज़ार भाव पर, जब तक प्रमाणीकरण पूरा न हो।
- सितंबर 2025 में वित्त वर्ष 2025-26 के लिए 25 लाख अतिरिक्त उज्ज्वला कनेक्शन देने को मंज़ूरी दी गई थी।

मुख्य शर्तें
- आवेदक महिला की आयु 18 वर्ष या अधिक हो और वह भारतीय नागरिक हो।
- कनेक्शन केवल महिला के नाम पर जारी होता है।
- आवेदक या परिवार के किसी सदस्य के नाम पर तेल कंपनी का घरेलू LPG कनेक्शन पहले से न हो।
- जिन परिवारों के पास घरेलू पाइप्ड नेचुरल गैस कनेक्शन है, वे सब्सिडी वाले LPG लाभ के पात्र नहीं हैं।

प्रवासी परिवारों के लिए
- उज्ज्वला 2.0 में निर्धारित स्व-घोषणा पत्र (Annexure-I) जमा करने पर राशन कार्ड या पारंपरिक निवास प्रमाण की ज़रूरत नहीं होती।
