Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Academic Excellence (Earlier Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship): Higher Study in India and Abroad
The earlier Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence has been renamed the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Academic Excellence. It helps meritorious Rajasthan students study at selected top institutes abroad and in India. The Rajasthan Government has said the scheme will continue and the number of beneficiaries has been raised. What Changed from the Rajiv Gandhi Scheme
Key changes
- The scheme has a new name: Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Academic Excellence.
- The government has said it will not be discontinued and more students will benefit.
- From 2025-26 the focus shifted to Indian institutes with 350 seats, while foreign seats were reduced to 150.
- Eligible foreign universities are linked to Times Higher Education and QS rankings, and Indian institutes are those notified on the scheme list.
Benefits
- Under the earlier scheme the yearly maintenance allowance for all levels of courses was up to Rs 10 lakh.
- A yearly contingency and equipment allowance of Rs 1 lakh was given for books and essential equipment.
- The actual visa fee was reimbursed in Indian rupees.
- 30 percent of the awards were kept for women students.
- Support continues for the course period, for example about 3 years for PhD and 1 year for post-doctoral work.

Who Is Eligible
Basic conditions
- Resident (domicile) of Rajasthan.
- Age under 35 years.
- The family income limit set in the latest guidelines must be met. Earlier rules fixed it in lakhs and varied by category.
- Admission letter from the foreign or Indian institute must be in hand before applying.
- The institute and programme must be on the official eligible list.
Conditions on scholars (2025-26)
- Give first priority to finding a job in Rajasthan after the course.
- Prepare a project report comparing state schemes and suggest improvements.
- Engineering students give technical support during the study period.
- Share research papers, projects and reports with the state government by email.
- Attend the online interactions organised by the government.

How to Apply
- First update all your details in Jan Aadhaar, because the form can be filled only after this.
- Register on the Rajasthan SSO portal using your Jan Aadhaar ID.
- Open the Higher Education Department scholarship page, read the guidance material and click apply.
- Log in to SSO, go to Citizen Apps (G2C) and open the Scholarship icon.
- Choose Student, enter your Aadhaar number, then update and save your profile.
- Enter your education details, the course you will study, the country and institute, the admission letter and fee details, and upload the documents.
- Submit the form and track it from the dashboard. Reply to any objection raised using your Application ID.
You can also apply through the nearest e-Mitra centre. Keep the files clear in PDF or JPG format and use Save as Draft if the server is busy.

मुख्य बदलाव
- योजना का नया नाम: स्वामी विवेकानंद स्कॉलरशिप फॉर एकेडमिक एक्सीलेंस।

बुनियादी शर्तें
- राजस्थान का निवासी (मूल निवास)।
- आयु 35 वर्ष से कम।
