What is AGMARK?

AGMARK is the Government of India's quality certification mark for agricultural products such as ghee, edible oils, honey, spices, pulses and cereals. It is run by the Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, under the Agricultural Produce (Grading and Marking) Act, 1937. Grade standards exist for over 200 commodities.

Is AGMARK Mandatory?

Generally it is voluntary, but it builds buyer trust. For some products such as blended edible vegetable oils and fat spreads, AGMARK certification is mandatory. Only an authorised packer may use the mark; using the logo without authorisation is an offence.

Eligibility & Documents

• You must hold or arrange the infrastructure to process the commodity, or have access to an approved laboratory
• Business proof (incorporation certificate, partnership deed or proprietorship proof) and PAN
• FSSAI licence and premises details
• Commodity details, process description and testing facility details
• Application form with the prescribed fee

How to Get AGMARK

1. Apply to the nearest DMI office (separate application for each commodity)
2. Submit documents and the prescribed fee
3. DMI inspects your premises and checks the testing facility
4. Samples are tested in an AGMARK laboratory
5. Certificate of Authorization (CA) is issued
6. Mark your packs with the AGMARK label or replica, along with the CA number, lot number and details as required

The process can take roughly one to two months, depending on inspection and testing.

Validity, Renewal & Fees

• A Certificate of Authorization is valid for 5 years
• Apply for renewal at least 30 days before expiry
• Fees vary with commodity, volume and testing charges, so confirm with the DMI office
