What is BIFMA Certification?

BIFMA is the international trade association for business and institutional furniture. It publishes safety and performance standards (ANSI/BIFMA) that are used to test office chairs, desks, tables, storage and similar products. Testing is done by BIFMA-listed laboratories, and the BIFMA LEVEL programme adds third-party sustainability certification. It is voluntary, not a government requirement in India.

Certification Process

1. Choose the BIFMA standard that matches your product
2. Send samples to a BIFMA-listed testing laboratory
3. Get the test report; fix and retest if any test fails
4. For LEVEL, apply to an accredited certification body for evaluation of product, facility and company
5. Receive the certificate or test report
6. Maintain compliance, and retest when design or materials change
