What is BIS Certification?

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is India’s national standards body under the BIS Act, 2016. BIS certification confirms that a product meets the applicable Indian Standard (IS) for safety and quality.

It is mandatory only for products covered by a Quality Control Order (QCO). Without it, such products cannot be made, imported, sold or distributed. Always check the latest QCO list for your exact product.

How to Get BIS Certification – Step by Step

Identify the applicable Indian Standard and scheme.
Prepare the documents.
Apply online on the BIS Manakonline portal (Form V for ISI, Form I for CRS) and pay the fee.
Testing: for CRS, a lab report less than 90 days old; for ISI, BIS collects samples during inspection.
Factory inspection (ISI and FMCS).
Reply to BIS queries promptly.
Receive your licence number or R-number and apply the BIS mark.

Validity, Renewal & Verification

CRS registration: generally 2 years, then renew.
ISI licence: initially up to 2 years, then renewable for 1–5 years.
FMCS licence: initially 1–2 years, renewable for 1–5 years.
Renew on the Manakonline portal before expiry.
Verify any licence or R-number with the BIS Care App.

Non-compliance can lead to fines, licence suspension or cancellation, product seizure and, in serious cases, imprisonment under the BIS Act.

BIS सर्टिफिकेट कैसे पाएं – स्टेप बाय स्टेप

वैधता, रिन्यूअल और सत्यापन
