What is Udyam Registration?

Udyam Registration is the government’s voluntary online registration for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). It replaced Udyog Aadhaar in July 2020 and gives you a permanent Udyam Registration Number (URN) and e-certificate.

The government registration is free, paperless and needs no renewal. Udyam and MSME registration mean the same thing.

MSME Classification (from 1 April 2025)

Exports are not counted in turnover. An enterprise moves up a category if it crosses either limit.

Who Can Apply?

• Sole proprietorships, partnership firms, LLPs and companies
• Trusts, NGOs and societies carrying on an eligible activity
• HUFs, cooperatives and self-help groups
• Manufacturers, service providers and traders within the limits
• Informal micro units without PAN or GST can use the Udyam Assist Platform

Documents Required

• Aadhaar of the proprietor, partner or authorised signatory (for OTP)
• PAN of the enterprise (or proprietor)
• GSTIN, where GST is required
• Bank account number and IFSC
• Business activity, NIC code, address, start date and employee count

Investment and turnover are fetched from PAN and GST records, so no financial documents are normally uploaded.

How to Register – Step by Step

1. Open udyamregistration.gov.in and choose new registration.
2. Enter Aadhaar and verify with OTP.
3. Select organisation type and validate PAN.
4. Enter GSTIN, if applicable.
5. Fill in enterprise name, address, bank details and start date.
6. Select activity and NIC codes, and add employee count.
7. Confirm investment and turnover, submit, and download the certificate.

Time: usually the same day, or 1–2 working days if manual verification is needed.

Download Certificate / Forgot URN

• Go to Print / Verify, then Print Udyam Certificate, enter URN and OTP, and download the PDF.
• To verify any URN, use Verify Udyam Registration Number.
• If you forgot your URN, use Forgot Udyam/UAM No. and verify with OTP.
