78-Day Bonus for Railway Employees, but Calculation Stuck at Rs 7,000! Maximum Rs 17,951, 11.40 Lakh Benefit, Rs 2,009.61 Crore Approved
On 14 October 2026 the Union Cabinet approved a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equal to 78 days' wages for 11,40,770 eligible railway employees for FY 2025-26, at a cost of Rs 2,009.61 crore. But the bonus is still calculated on a monthly ceiling of Rs 7,000, so the maximum 78-day bonus is only Rs 17,951.

Who Gets It
- Track maintainers, loco pilots, train managers (guards) and station masters.
- Supervisors, technicians, technician helpers and pointsmen.
- Ministerial staff and other Group C employees.
- According to the newspaper, over 45,000 non-gazetted employees in divisions of North Western Railway including Jaipur will also benefit.
Why the Calculation Is Stuck at Rs 7,000
- After the 7th Pay Commission the minimum basic pay is Rs 18,000, yet the bonus is still calculated on Rs 7,000 a month.
- On this ceiling the maximum 78-day bonus works out to Rs 17,951.
- Employee bodies have long demanded that the ceiling be removed or raised. According to one union official, a Rs 7,000 ceiling against Rs 18,000 minimum pay has no justification.
- The bodies have said their struggle will continue.
