'All Challans Waived'? The Truth About the 25 October Lok Adalat: It Is for Delhi Only, Next Chance Is 12 December
Viral video claims challans from Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000 will be waived. Here are the actual rules
A viral social media video claims that all traffic challans, whether Rs 5,000 or Rs 50,000, will be waived at the National Lok Adalat on 25 October 2026. The claim is incomplete and misleading.
The real position (latest update)
- According to NALSA, the 3rd National Lok Adalat of 2026 was held on 12 September. Karnataka, Rajasthan and Delhi had separate dates: 19 September, 10 October and 25 October respectively.
- So the 25 October Lok Adalat is only for Delhi, rescheduled because of the BRICS Summit and court calendar changes.
- Rajasthan's National Lok Adalat was scheduled for 10 October. The next (4th) nationwide National Lok Adalat is reported for 12 December 2026.
How challans are settled at a Lok Adalat
- Cases are settled by mutual consent. The bench may reduce or waive the fine depending on the offence and record. Every challan being fully waived is not guaranteed.
- Serious cases such as drunk driving, hit-and-run or accidents with injury are generally not settled here.
- In earlier Delhi Lok Adalats, pre-registration and tokens were required, and only challans pending up to a cut-off date were taken. Check the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) website for this session's rules.
Preparation before settling a challan
- Note your vehicle and challan numbers and check pending challans on the transport / traffic police portal.
- Keep your RC, driving licence and ID proof with you.
- Register and pay only on the official website or at the court-complex counter. Beware of agents or links promising to "get your challan waived".
