Big Change in PF! Wage Ceiling Raised From Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000, Effective 17 September 2026, More Employees to Come Under PF
Applies to EPF, EPS and EDLI; September is computed in two parts
The wage ceiling for mandatory coverage under EPF, the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS) and EDLI has been raised from Rs 15,000 per month to Rs 25,000. The change came into effect from 17 September 2026 through notification S.O. 5109(E).
What has changed
- The old ceiling was Rs 15,000; it is now Rs 25,000.
- The effective date was not postponed to 1 October; it remains 17 September.
- As the change came mid-month, September 2026 had to be computed in two parts, but both periods are reported in a single ECR.
- For this reason, the last date for the September 2026 ECR and contributions has been extended from 15 to 31 October.
What employees should do
- Check your salary slip to see whether PF deduction follows the new ceiling.
- Keep your UAN active and your Aadhaar and bank KYC updated.
- Check the September contribution entry in your PF passbook or the UMANG app.
- If in doubt, ask your HR or employer.
What employers should do
- Update pay-bills and payroll settings as per the new ceiling.
- Compute September contributions separately for the periods before and after 17 September.
- File the ECR and pay before 31 October.
