The National Testing Agency (NTA) opened UGC NET December 2026 applications on 8 October, and they run till 28 October. The exam will be computer-based (CBT) in 87 subjects. In the revised notification of 16 October, the exam dates have been changed from the earlier 14 to 19 December to 14 to 18 and 21 December.

The newspaper clipping says the exam is on 14 to 19 December, but as per the revised notification of 16 October the dates are 14 to 18 and 21 December. NTA has said the dates may change.

Eligibility
- UGC NET decides eligibility for Assistant Professor, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and PhD admission.
- Candidates with a master's degree can apply. Check the minimum marks by category and the JRF age limit in the information bulletin.
- Conditions for final-year candidates or those awaiting results are also given in the bulletin.
How to Apply
- Open NTA's official website ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
- Register afresh and keep the application number and password safe.
- Fill in personal, academic and category details, and choose the subject and exam city.
- Upload the photograph, signature and required documents in the prescribed size.
- Pay the fee online (UPI, card or net banking).
- Download the confirmation page and keep a printout.
- If there is a mistake, correct it in the 2 to 4 November correction window.
Apply early to avoid the last-day rush. Both the application and the fee must be completed by 11:50 pm on 28 October.
