Rajasthan Half-Yearly Exams from 25 November, Election Duty Disrupts Schools: 80% Teachers on Poll Duty in Some Places, Syllabus Completion Difficult
The half-yearly exams for Classes 9 to 12 in Rajasthan's government schools have been moved because of the panchayat elections and will now be held from 25 November to 7 December 2026. But with a large number of teachers on election duty, the arrangements and teaching in many schools have been disrupted. According to Dainik Bhaskar's Sikar report of 2 November, completing the syllabus looks difficult in many schools.
New Exam Schedule
A revised half-yearly exam schedule was issued on the orders of Secondary Education Director Lalit Kumar. The exams were earlier fixed for 15 to 29 October but were postponed due to panchayat election duty and training.
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Half-yearly exam (Classes 9 to 12) | 25 November to 7 December 2026 |
| Diwali break | 4 to 15 November 2026 |
| Schools reopen | 16 November 2026 |
| Winter break | 31 December 2026 to 10 January 2027 |
Reports say there will be no exam on 29 November because it is a Sunday, and exams resume on 30 November. The first shift is reported as 9:30 am to 12:45 pm.
Impact of Election Duty
According to the Bhaskar report, about 2,600 polling parties have been formed in Sikar district. Each party has one presiding officer, one class-IV employee and three other polling officers, and around 90 percent of these personnel are from the education department.
- In some schools, 8 out of 10 teachers were reported to be on election duty.
- In places a whole school is running on the strength of just four women teachers.
- Some schools have two principals while others have no subject lecturers.
- Some larger schools with over 300 students were reported to lack teachers in certain subjects.
Effect on Syllabus and Studies
The Diwali break runs from 4 to 15 November and the exams begin on 25 November. So after schools reopen only 9 days are available for preparation. Because of the election phases many teachers were on duty even in the early days of the break, which has increased pressure to complete the syllabus. Education department officials said alternative arrangements will be made as needed.
Teachers' Union Demand
Teachers' union office-bearers say the responsibility of department officials should not be limited to improving rankings. They argue that putting teachers on excessive duty hurts teaching and affects academic quality.
What Students and Parents Can Do
- Get the subject-wise exam timetable from your school's notice or group.
- Make a revision timetable for the 9 days from 16 to 24 November.
- For subjects without teachers, ask the school administration about alternative arrangements.
- Rely only on official notices from the education department or school.
