School Timetable Changed! Rajasthan Government Schools Now Run 10 AM to 4 PM, Effective 16 October, New Timing Valid Till 31 March 2027
Date moved from 1 October to 16 October due to heat; double-shift schools may have different timings
The winter timetable came into force in Rajasthan's government schools from Friday, 16 October 2026. As per the education department's revised instructions, government schools running in a single shift will now operate from 10 AM to 4 PM. The new arrangement will remain in effect till 31 March 2027.
Old and new timings
- Till 15 October: 7:30 AM to 1 PM.
- From 16 October (single-shift schools): 10 AM to 4 PM.
- Double-shift schools: Timings may differ. According to one report, the Shivira Panchang lists 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM for them (about 5 hours per shift), but the revised order reports do not mention this separately.
- Academic activities will follow the Shivira Panchang for session 2026-27.
Why the date changed
- Normally the winter timing starts on 1 October, and the department had initially proposed the same.
- Heat and humidity continued in many areas in the last days of September, so the date was pushed forward. Teachers' organisations and parents had also asked for a weather-appropriate change.
- The date of 16 October was fixed after revised instructions from the Secondary Education Directorate, Bikaner.
- The date has been postponed in earlier years too: in 2022, 2023 and 2024, while in 2025 the timing changed from 1 October itself.
What parents and students should do
- Confirm the new timing from your school's notice or the principal, especially for double-shift schools.
- Adjust departure time, school van/bus and tuition timings to the new timetable.
- With school ending at 4 PM, plan the return time and take care of your child's winter clothing and safety.
- If needed, check the school notice board or ask the principal for a copy of the order.
