'Sugar Boards' Coming to Rajasthan Schools: Children Will Learn the Harm of Too Much Sugar
As per a Patrika report from Bikaner, the Elementary Education and Panchayati Raj Department has directed District Education Officers to set up "sugar boards" in Rajasthan schools. The step follows an NCPCR advisory. CBSE issued a similar direction to its schools in May 2025.
What The Boards Will Do
- Show how much sugar is hidden in packaged food and drinks, not only in toffee and chocolate.
- Teach children to read food labels and check the sugar quantity.
- Explain the effect of excess sugar and the value of a balanced diet.
The Aim: Awareness, Not a Ban
The initiative does not only stop children from eating sweets. It aims to build healthy habits, a balanced diet and a better lifestyle. Excess sugar can raise the risk of weight gain and tooth decay.
Role of Teachers and Parents
- Teachers can use food examples in class to explain sugar quantity and its effect.
- Nutritious food and regular physical activity support children's overall development.
- The message is expected to reach homes through the child.
