Gargi Award: Only 473 of 9,140 Applications Updated, Last Chance Till 30 November; Girls' Prize Money May Get Stuck
As per a Dainik Bhaskar report (Bikaner, 28 October 2026), girls waiting for the Gargi Award and Balika Protsahan Award money may face trouble again. A chance has been given to update applications so that money stuck because of bank account errors and other reasons can be paid, but even after 20 days the work is very slow. By 27 October only 473 of the 9,140 applications had been updated, i.e. only about 5.2% of the work is done. The last date for updating is 30 November 2026.

What Is the Problem and Who Is Responsible
- Under the scheme, the prize money is sent to girls' bank accounts by DBT, but due to technical reasons such as the Jan Aadhaar-linked bank account being closed or having wrong details, the money could not reach many accounts.
- A module has been started on the Shala Darpan portal to correct and update the applications of such girls.
- The Balika Shiksha Foundation has made it clear that this is the last opportunity. If any girl in a district is left without the prize money, the district education officer concerned will be fully responsible.
- The District Education Officer (Secondary) has directed school heads to complete the work by the deadline.
Scheme Details (as per Last Session)
- Gargi Award: ₹2,000 first instalment for a girl who scored 75% or more in Class 10 and is studying in Class 11 in a government school; ₹3,000 second instalment on regular study in Class 12.
- Balika Protsahan Award: ₹5,000 for scoring 75% or more in Class 12 from a government school.
- Documents needed: Jan Aadhaar, Aadhaar, Class 10 and 12 marksheets and a bank account (linked to the candidate's or mother's Jan Aadhaar).

- Check the details of the bank account linked to Jan Aadhaar; if it is closed, inactive or wrong, get it corrected immediately.
- Meet your school head to find out whether the application is updated and give the correct bank details for the update.
