- New fee and limit rules (from 1 June 2026): Our guides cite Circular-10 dated 7 May 2026 for self-service updates via SSO ID. Several changes now have a free first attempt and a small fee for later ones (for example bank details: first free, then Rs 40; marital status and spouse name: first free, then Rs 15; transfer, split or head change: first free, then Rs 25).

About This Guide
- Jan Aadhaar gives each family a 10-digit family ID and each member an 11-digit ID.
- e-KYC is compulsory for the head and every member above 5. No edits are possible until e-KYC is done.
- A valid bank account in the head's name is compulsory because scheme payments go there.
- Changes are made through the SSO portal or an e-Mitra centre, are confirmed by Aadhaar OTP and e-Sign, and pass two-level verification.

Common Tips
- Complete e-KYC for the head and all members first, because nothing can be edited before it.
- Make sure the Aadhaar mobile number is active, since OTP goes there.
- Correct name or date of birth in Aadhaar with UIDAI before updating Jan Aadhaar.
- Plan changes carefully, as only the first attempt at many changes is free.
- "Pending at citizen" means e-Sign is not finished.
- Do not pay agents. At e-Mitra only the prescribed charge applies.
